These tools require sterilization before first use to ensure they are free from contaminants, bacteria, or residues resulting from manufacturing or packaging processes.
- Remove all packaging.
- Thoroughly clean each bur to remove dust, oil, and any visible residue. Use warm water and a neutral-pH instrument detergent, manually or in an ultrasonic cleaner.
- Rinse the burs completely, pat dry, and inspect for any remaining debris or manufacturing residue.
- Sterilize using a validated steam autoclave cycle:
- PreVacuum Steam (preferred): 134°C for 18 minutes
- Gravity Steam (standard autoclaves): 121°C for 30 minutes
- After sterilization, dry the burs completely to prevent rust.
- Store in a clean, dry, sterile environment
Important:
- Do not soak in harsh chemicals (e.g., bleach), as these can corrode stainless steel.
- Regularly inspect tools for signs of rust, dullness, or mechanical damage.
- Replace tools that show wear or can no longer be properly sterilized.
